ABOUT ANONYMOUS THEATRE
Actors cast in Anonymous Theatre do not learn the identity of their castmates until they are onstage in front of the audience, and keep their participation in the event a secret. Actors rehearse one-on-one with the director, but do much of the preparation work on their own.
ABOUT THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake.
Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.
AUDITION DATES AND TIMES
Friday, May 17, 4:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Sunday, May 19, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm
Monday, May 20, 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
All auditions will be held at Oregon Children's Theatre (1939 NE Sandy Blvd).
To schedule an audition, please sign up HERE.
All roles will be cast after the first round of auditions. There will not be callback auditions.
Auditioners will be scheduled for five-minute slots, in which they will read an audition side, sing 16 bars of a character song, and dance a simple, brief combination that will be sent in advance via video. Audition sides and a dance video link will be sent within two weeks of the auditions.
Sides: Please prepare one side of your choice. Please do read through all of the sides to get a sense of the show, and so you have seen them if you are asked to read additional sides. Sides are available to view and download here.
Music: Please prepare 16 bars of a character song and bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be present. You can (but genuinely certainly needn’t!) bring a selection from the show.
Dance: Please prepare the 2 counts of 8 provided. The audition tutorial video is available here.
Note: We realize this is more than usually required for an initial audition. However, because of the Anonymous process, we have no callbacks. Also, because of the process, our cast will need to be able to learn songs and dances on their own. We appreciate your work and commitment!
We aim to have a diverse cast. Interested actors with disabilities are encouraged to reach out to discuss how we might facilitate your participation. Equity contracts are available. Please Note: Many of the characters in this show are often cast with a certain “type”. We do not intend to intentionally stick to these types beyond what is dictated by the text. So please do not feel limited when choosing sides for yourself.
Please click HERE for a full character breakdown.
All performers – both Equity and non-Equity - will receive pay ranging from $300 to $400 depending on the role. Further details about the Equity contract will be available here as soon as details are finalized.
